Movie convention research: To All The Boys I've loved Before

Hello again, making our film a Romance film means we must gage references about what conventions popular films use. But what are conventions? Movie conventions refer to the widely accepted storytelling elements and techniques used in filmmaking that audiences have come to expect and recognize. These conventions can include aspects of a film, such as its plot structure and character development. There are many popular conventions in romance films. Especially with young people, as there is a common trope with young people that they are reckless. If you mix being reckless and romantic, then you usually have entertaining moments that are perfect for a film. The First films conventions we will be looking at is To All the Boys I Loved Before. This is about a student named Lara Jean who writes love letters to all of her crushes but keeps them hidden away in a box. When the letters are accidentally sent out, her love life is turned upside down as she navigates relationships with several boys from her past. This is an example of a set of cliché sires of events in the movie. Because, of course, her letters are accidentally sent out. My group members thought this was a bad plot. But I told them the conventions they use are some we can use aswell. this film the conventions we are using include the “young love” convention as it fits our cast members and would be hard not to portray. Another convention we are going to use is a “Friends to lovers” convention as we feel it is very relatable for many and in the film brings out heartwarming moments. My group members and I enjoyed the use of comic relief to defuse romantic tension as it was a great way to bridge scene from scene in the film. It also made for some funny enjoyable moments. One aspect of the film we did not enjoy was the predictability of the plot and the cliché moments that can only be described as Cringeworthy and unrealistic.  There are times where we are watching the film and going “Real people don’t act like that,” and that is honestly the worst part about the film.
